Germbox

Kansas City, MO

A criminally unknown and underrated band from Kansas City from the early 90s that played with an intensity most people weren’t ready for at the time. Dynamic songwriting, sickly swirling guitar, a galloping rhythm section, and a vocalist with unhinged screams that cleared venues of all but the hardcore. On par with anything AmRep was putting out at the time, and as brutal as bands like Unsane, Dazzling Killmen, Zeni Geva, or Swans.

They frequently played shows with other local titans of the era like Season to Risk, Shiner, and Giants Chair. It was through these Kansas City connections that Germbox ended up on Caulfield Records.

Germbox didn’t last long enough to record an LP, but their Creamy Loop and Groaning Bridge 7”s along with unreleased tracks and basement demos recorded at Westend Studios in 1991-1992 were collected on the CD Fraction of Exaggeration, released on Caulfield in 2002.
